Tourist Attractions in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Join us on a small tour through Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Our starting point is the Ski-stadium (Skistadion). Here the Fourth Olympic Winter Games took place in 1936. Garmisch and Partenkirchen, two formerly separated communities were united then. Partenkirchen with its unique atmosphere is the older part of town. Tradition is still alive here. An impressive example is the art of “Lüftlmalerei” (murals), which has been practiced for centuries until today.
Also in modern Garmisch one can find some traditional places. The streets Sonnen- and Frühlingsstrasse are worthwhile visiting. For shopping tours you visit the shopping-street and the area around the spa gardens. And with a bit of luck you can supplement your budget at the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Casino (Spielbank).

Zugspitze and Eibsee

Lake Eibsee is situated at the foot of the monumental mountain Zugspitze. A walking tour around the lake (about 7 km) is not too exhausting and feels like like balm for the soul. The cable railway takes you to the top of Germany’s tallest mountain. At 2966 metres above sea level you have a fabulous view over the Bavarian alpine upland.

Visit the Bauerntheater (Folklore theatre)

Bavarian way of life and ribald sense of humour are part and parcel of the Bavarian “Bauerntheater”. It is mostly performed in dialect and both amusing and entertaining. The Partenkirchen “Bauertheater” is well known not only in the region, but also nationwide.

Partnachklamm

Constant dripping wears away the stone. In the course of millennia, torrents paved their way through the rocks carved deep canyons. Partnachklamm is about 700 metres long, its rock faces are reaching 80 metres. Additional, manmade galleries and passages make the gorge accessible also during winter, when bizarre icicles turn this natural beauty into a fairytale landscape. At the other end, the Reintal is waiting for you – a hikers’ paradise.
